Privacy Notice for California Residents
Last updated: August 12, 2026
This notice supplements Velera’s Privacy Policy and applies to people who live in California. We adopt it to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the “CCPA”). Terms defined in the CCPA have the same meaning here.
What we collect, and why
In the last twelve months we have collected these categories of personal information:
- Identifiers — name, street address, telephone number, email address, and the GPS coordinate of a property. Collected to contact you, to design a solar system for your roof, and to prepare and perform a contract.
- California Customer Records information (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80(e)) — the same contact details, together with the contract and payment terms of a purchase. Collected to perform the contract.
- Commercial information — the system quoted, the equipment selected, and your electricity usage where you give it to us or upload a utility bill. Collected to size a system and estimate savings.
- Geolocation data — the coordinate of a property we have visited or designed a system for. See canvassing below.
- Visual information — aerial and satellite imagery of a roof, retrieved by address from a third-party mapping service, and photographs taken during a site survey or installation.
- Professional or employment information — only if you apply for a job with us, and only what you send.
Canvassing
Our representatives knock doors. When they do, our field app records the street address, a coordinate, the date, and the outcome of the visit — including visits where nobody answered and nobody agreed to anything. If a conversation happens, it may also record a name, telephone number, email address and notes about what was said.
We collect this to run and supervise a sales territory and to avoid knocking the same door twice. You can ask us to stop and to add an address to our do-not-knock list: see your privacy choices.
Where it comes from
- Directly from you — at a door, on a call, on a form, or in a document you upload.
- From your property — observations and photographs taken during a visit.
- From service providers — a mapping and solar service that returns imagery and roof measurements for an address; a model that reads a utility bill you upload; a lender you apply to, which tells us the status of your application.
- From a referral, where somebody gives us your details so we can contact you.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We have not done so in the preceding twelve months, and we do not sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
We disclose personal information for business purposes to:
- Service providers who work for us under contract — hosting, mapping and solar data, document signing, email delivery, and payment processing.
- Lenders and finance partners, when you apply for financing.
- Installation partners and subcontractors who need it to do the work.
- Authorities having jurisdiction and utilities, for permits and interconnection.
- Anyone we are legally required to give it to, including in response to a court order or lawful request.
Each service provider is under a contract that requires them to keep the information confidential and to use it only to perform that contract.
Your rights
- Know and access — what we have collected about you, where it came from, why, and who we disclosed it to. You can ask for a copy in a portable form.
- Delete — ask us to delete what we collected from you.
- Correct — ask us to fix information about you that is wrong.
- Opt out of sale or sharing — we do neither, so there is nothing to opt out of. If that ever changes we will update this notice first and provide a mechanism.
- Limit use of sensitive information — we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that trigger this right.
- Non-discrimination — we will not deny you goods or services, charge you a different price, or give you a worse service because you exercised a right. We do not run financial incentive programmes for personal information.
When we may refuse a deletion request
We may keep information where the CCPA allows it — to complete a transaction you asked for, to perform a contract, to detect and prevent fraud or security incidents, to comply with a legal obligation, or for internal uses reasonably aligned with your relationship with us. A signed contract and a permit filed with a jurisdiction are the two that come up most often. If we refuse, we will tell you which exception applies.
How to make a request
Email legal@velera.energy, or telephone [Customer support telephone]. See your privacy choices for what to include.
Only you, or somebody you have authorised, can make a request. We will ask for enough information to be reasonably sure you are who you say you are — usually the address and the contact details we already hold — and we will use what you give us for nothing except answering the request. You do not need an account with us. You may make an access or portability request twice in a twelve-month period.
An authorised agent may act for you if they can show you asked them to. We may contact you directly to confirm before we act.
How long we take
We aim to confirm a request within 10 business days and to answer it within 45 calendar days. If we need longer, up to a further 45 days, we will tell you why before the first period runs out. Disclosures cover the 12 months before the request. There is no fee unless a request is excessive or repetitive, in which case we will explain and estimate the cost before doing anything.
Shine the Light
California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civil Code § 1798.83) lets California residents ask about personal information disclosed to third parties for their own direct marketing. We do not disclose personal information for that purpose. To ask anyway, email legal@velera.energy.
Changes
We may update this notice. When we do, we will post it here and change the date at the top.
